This is quite good, and I like it about as much as the more acclaimed follow-up. The vibe and the textures are very satisfying, which is good because all of the songs themselves have left my head scarcely five minutes after finishing the album. 3.5/5.

I liked the bass solo in the eponymous track and then how it built back up. Piano was stellar in the closer. Sometimes I thought this top notch and other times thought it pretty average. 80
2. Bay, check out the Dead Kennedy's album. Some understandings of the meanings of track names help a bit... concepts in it are at least not about bananas, but the music feels a bit immature for me.

Well that took me by surprise. I love the song Crimson & Clover but I expected an album with one excellent song and a lot of filler. That was not the case, although the title track is the obvious standout, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole album. It put me in a great mood and was a nice way to start the day on the way to work. Considering this is not even in the top 100 for 1969 here at BEA I'm calling this an underappreciated album. And I know I've said it before but 1969 is such a great year for music. Does anyone else love the music from the year they were born as much as I do? 8.5/10, 9/35 for 1969, and 26/100 for the 60's.
You might not have enjoyed her live much Seth (although I thought she was great when I saw her, which was a couple of years after this album) but see how you go with the album. It's not my favourite of hers, she does have a few I like more, but it's still one of her better ones.
Baystate's best of the 60's (last pick, and also the last pick for the 60's for now - I'm going somewhere else next)
As there is only 9 albums left that I haven't heard I've topped up the list from the 1969 chart.
10. Shangri-Las - 65! by The Shangri-Las
24. Idle Moments by Grant Green
28. A Christmas Gift For You by Various Artists
30. Leader Of The Pack by The Shangri-Las

Great instrumentals and hardcore intensity paired with biting satirical lyrics, which are frequently political. It's certainly edgy music, but I'm not sure I picked up on any immaturity Seth. Enjoyed it quite bit, and I'm starting it at a 3.5/5.
The Wire Magazine in 100 Records That Set The World On Fire [When No One Was Listening] wrote:
If Dylan going electric in 1965 turned folk purists into baying hyenas, Buffy Sainte-Marie going electronic would have turned them into kill-hungry wolves, if they weren't already a spent force. Film maker/archivist Harry Smith had established a precedent for folk-avant garde-shamanic pow wows, but Cree-born Sainte-Marie crosswired them, drawing occult aspects out of her folk and Native American sources with electronics. Synthesized from her guitar and voice, already rich in natural reverb, Michael Czajkowski's score hallucinates ghost shadows on "Poppies", edges the supernatural ballad "The Vampire" with eeriness, and hatches a chorus of chimeras out of her setting of Leonard Cohen's "God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot". When Coil picked up on "God...", the song linked them into a chain leading to Sesame Street, where Sainte-Marie roosted for five years. Occult enough?
The greatest First Nations singer/songwriter of all time? Has a special place in my heart because she's a UMass Amherst alumna. Need to revisit this myself.

After a few days of going through orientation for my new job, I finally got time to listen to music. Does that mean I am done with it? No. In fact I got to do something for tomorrow. Now for the regular schedule program.

Man going back to this for a second time was really cool. It feels like this middle ground from the more cerebral and patience testing qualities of SAW II and the more experimental sections of The Richard D James album and the eps from 1997-1999. With it's own twist of piano pieces and prepared piano pieces. In one breath, my grade of a 95 still stands. For almost 20 years this feels quite mindblowing and experimental opus that can change its mood within in just a snap either by a song to song basis or a song portion to another song portion.
My caveat for this album would be how the album can feel a bit long winded. There are points where maybe if a few songs weren't on the album, I would enjoy it more. As well as for me at least, find albums like Syro or I Care Because You Do to be more tighter or ambitious with there shorter run time.
So if I was gonna put in my list, it would be high but would be out of the top 5. For foreshadowing, I feel like Autechre could crack the top 5. But we will see.

Bay try out Spiritualized. Also if that doesn't work out, let me know.

Very relaxing, dreamy, spacious album. Ranges from gorgeous to slightly dull. I definitely prefer it to Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. Because not all of it feels engaging, I'm starting it at 3.5/5, but it could be a grower.

Thanks for the info Baystate. This was cool, I enjoyed it. I like the vocals a lot. Preferred the electric, rockier songs mostly but that's not surprising. One of them brought to mind PJ Harvey. 7.5/10, 26/36 for 1969, 69/100 for the 60's.
So I am happy with the solid exposure I got from the 70's and 60's and it's time to move on. Back to where it all began (although I didn't start there and haven't done it yet): it's five picks from the BEA overall chart.
104. Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
109. Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
111. Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes (I think I may have heard this once but I'm not sure)
113. Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) by Wu-Tang Clan
120. If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle And Sebastian
121. Absolution by Muse
122. Quadrophenia by The Who
129. Homogenic by Bjรถrk
145. Mezzanine by Massive Attack
149. Discovery by Daft Punk
This is one of those albums where while I will agree that this is a good album. But that's just it. Musically, it's good. But it doesn't wow me in the sense of Aimee Mann or Kacey Musgraves for the women in country. Or other albums from Johnny Cash or 16 Horsepower. I do recommend it to fans of more traditional country music. But if you want an album that would wow you, this might not be it. Grade:75

Pash, that list especially the bottom 3 is a must. So my pick for now would be Homogenic. Though I am tempted to make you listen to Mezzanine as well as Discovery. But it is Homogenic.

Good to get acquainted with another classic band from my neck of the woods. This sounded more or less how I expected it to, and that's perfectly fine with me. Probably not destined to be a personal favorite, but this is some damn good noisy indie. 3.5/5.

To Bring You My Love by PJ Harvey
So when I saw her live, her band didn't sound good and she just sounded like she was shouting, but I couldn't feel emotion or meaning in it... I was like 16 at the time, so maybe I'd have a different impression now. The tour was for the Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea album. I also wasn't familiar with her music... she opened for U2 (my favorite band at the time), so it was a harsh juxtaposition. Maybe it was the sound guys fault... hehe. Anyway, for this album I was actually quite impressed - it was dark, yet texture and melody was wonderful. Definitely an 85 for that... but nothing special about the album to elevate it past that (at least for this listen).
2. Bay, I discovered this album through this game. Still find it funny the name of this album then became the name of another project of his. Anyway, I find it incredibly creative for sure. Creativity only gets you so far though... Mount Eerie - The Microphones
