He never seemed to be a leader in the usual sense, more like someone who created frameworks. I guess without the impact of this record, the music on ECM would have not sounded like it did in the haydays of a jazz that found its blues roots in Chopin. (Edited)
A strong album blending Hard Bop and Avant-Garde Jazz. Personal favorite: "Svantetic." 9/10. (Edited)

In the midst of another personal jazz deep dive, I found this on Spotify and knew by looking at the cover alone that it was going to be amazing.
It very much is. Already one of my favorite jazz LP’s ever.
Astigmatic finely balances the line of being adventurous, wacky and far-reaching while doing so with a unique tastefulness. Everything here is dynamic and conversational and exceptional. (Edited)
