Obviously they aren't the first, but they perfected the classic punk sound here. A lot of the lyrics are confused, such as in "California Über Alles", and steeped in so much sarcasm that it's impossible to tell what they are actually trying to say. To the point where a lot of people don't think it's sarcasm. But this album would inspire many other bands even into the 2000's.

1, 2, 5, 8, 9 are masterpieces ?
One of punk's true masterpieces. Despite being part of the hard-core punk scene this feels more like an american version of classic punk, being more rooted in surf-rock than the short, to the jugular approach of bands like Minor Threat or Black Flag. Great example of using sarcasm in political commentary and making it actually funny.
A powerful and energetic album that perfectly captures what punk is all about. It is emotion and anger channelled towards something which the group think are significant which is most of the time politically charged. This album captures the passion the group posses and turn it into something brilliant with some great lyrics as well as music. The peak of this is California Uber Alles in my opinion as it feels so raw and commanding that it is impossible not to love this cut. It can feel a little dated at times however and some moments do feel a little under produced but it could be argued this only adds to the charm. Overall, a great punk album that encapsulates everything this genre is about in my opinion making it a must listen.
Solid
This album is one of the best punk albums ever made if not the best. The lyrics are controversial, sometimes too much (I Kill Children), but I generally like them especially on tracks like California Uber Alles and Holiday In Cambodia - two of the best on the album, where they are accompanied by amazing guitar work.
I would also like to highlight When Ya Get Drafted, Let's Lynch The Landlord, Drug Me, Chemical Warfare and Viva Las Vegas.

Solid collection of punk rock songs delivered with the undeniable, annoying charisma and manic energy of Jello Biafra. It seems to borrow equally from the Ramones and the Sex Pistols, though it doesn't quite reach the galvanizing heights of either (except on Holiday in Cambodia, with that awesome surf flow and those gorgeous guitar licks). Still, no one song is weak and I particularly like the angular Ill In the Head.
