I was thinking to myself, did I ever listen to any of these songs since Bob Marley was never a mainstay in my listening habits. Until I realized that the last two tracks I do remember hearing them. But in that way where the fans of Marley would shudder with commercials for resorts and vacation spots. And that is more of how Bob's music while had nods of unity, did look at the problems of Jamaica back then. Don't know if I caught that in the lyrics. But even with those last two songs being good to great, I just find the rest of the album to be really exciting. While the album has a lot of characteristics of existing in the summer time, there was something of the song construction that made me really impressed. The juicy bass, the chords that have that enveloping dreamy quality, sometimes getting a key change and knowing how to keep me interested. Even if this album still tends to hit the reggae tropes of being a bit mid paced, this was pretty entertaining. Though I am curious if there are other reggae albums that can impress me more. Grade:95

Yeah, so I couldn't find that album. I should find these ones before I post them, because they are pretty out there.
Anyways, I don't care for Supertramp, and it's still the case here. Alhough, this album has that terrible 80s sound that I was wanting, so it's partly a win. Title Track and "It's Alright" were both pretty good.
Marquee Moon is one of my favorite songs of all-time, and the album of the same name is also great.

Outside of a dozen or so of his singles, I've never been a big fan of Elton John. I tried his self-titled LP on a co-worker's recommendation, and thought it was just okay. So I didn't go into this with high expectations, especially given the 76-minute runtime. But the album gets off to a very strong start with a beautiful, 11-minute proggy epic, followed by three huge singles in a row. The first dud is Jamaica Jerk-Off, a racist piece of garbage seven tracks in. The three later duds on the album are notable for their misogyny, homophobia(?!), and eugenics respectively. But that's mostly on Taupin. Elton John's compositions and vocals are for the most part very good, and I'm surprised and impressed by how interesting and progressive some of the instrumentals are. However, even outside of the four true duds, there's additional filler. This really does not need to be a double album, and it's very front-loaded. If not for all the bloat and Taupin's questionable choices, this would be a very good or even great album in my book. And it has convinced me that Elton John has some utterly worthwhile album tracks. But with the flaws it has, I'm grading it with a high 3/5.

Despite seeing this album prior in this game I had no idea what this album was before I pressed play, and I didn't do any research so I had no idea what to expect. Now after listening I'm still not sure what I listened to but it was great! I guess at it's core it is a pop album, possibly even a J-pop album. Although it doesn't sound quite like any J-pop I've heard, which is very, very little. So maybe it's more accurate to say it doesn't sound like what I imagine J-pop to sound like. Sure the vocals probably do, and a lot of the hooky, catchy melodies, and the occasional cinematic feel, but apart from that there is a lot of '90s noisy alternative rock here, of all different sorts, some quirky, proggy art pop influence too, and some modern production touches. This all makes for a very exciting and eclectic listen where you just don't know what's going to come next, but at the same time, the songs all felt like they went together with each other, with a similar stylistic vibe. Very well done. Admittedly the vocals could be slightly annoying but as the album went on and the music just kept getting better and better that didn't matter much to me, and is only a slight quibble due to personal taste rather than quality. A very fun, enjoyable, and interesting listen. I'm giving this an 8.5/10, and would like to listen to this again sometime. 5/51 for 2000, and #60 for the decade.
Screamadelica quickly grew to be one of my very favourite albums of all time that I never tired of. Hope you like it Bay.

Speciation by Faceless Burial
When in doubt, rec me some good ol' metal hehe. But jokes aside, this really was an excellent pick and I'm baffled how I missed Speciation in 2020. Bangers all around, what can I say. My knees get weak and arms spaghetti when I hear Alex Macfarlane's crazy growls. I'm all in on this style (slightly technical/progressive death metal), the songwriting is excellent, they have their own sound and consistently keep things interesting. Not much else to say, if you dig this genre you're 99% gonna dig this album. 8/10

(A charming and varied - very varied - French pop album that ably dabbles in many genres and styles. Sounds like a party. And that is pretty cool.)
After several listens I think I still don't have a good hold on what this album is saying or doing. The simple explanation for that is because I don't speak french and don't have the time or, more accurately, interest and drive to look up translations. And musically it is all over the place. But wherever the music goes there are interesting sounds and they keep it catchy and lively the whole way through.
Love the electro-pop tracks (such as Nouvelle New Orleans) are just really beautiful and fun, the somewhat melancholy ballad "Le sang de mon prochain" is excellent, the opener with its brass and its general energy is a great way to start things off, "Foreigner" is also excellent, and the weird banjo-heavy track "Disconnexion" is excellent and a bit weird as well.
Don't have much else to say. I thought was an interesting, all over the place, genre-jumping little gem. Recommended to, well, most people.

This was a welcome amalgamation of a lot of things I already love. Believe it or not I heard NIN, Rolling Stones, Smashing Pumpkins, Breeders, Beck, U2 (Bono's lyrical flow believe it or not), Fiona, and more all in this album. Kinda shocked I've only heard a song or two of hers until now, given what I just read about her history. Curious as to why her popularity only really came in the 2010s (or at least that's when I started hearing about Cat Power). I can't say I fell in love for my first listen, but really appreciated it as a good album. I feel like it's a grower that could only get better with time.

This was quite great. There is a lot I could say about it. The bass lines on this album are so good. And Chief is correct. The title track is probably the best track on the album, except I think Torn Curtain might be my favorite thing from this. The grand high of that track was so good. Though I do have to bring out the double edge sword in the room where while I do enjoy the relaxed nature of the album, I would say it oddly brings my enjoyment for the album. Which is odd since I love albums that have a chill relaxing vibe to them. Maybe that was when I originally thought this was a punk album but find out it was a post punk album. Excepting high octane like Sex Pistols while not being mind bending like a Low. Then again wasn't crazy about Prove It. So I end up being a bit torn where I don't know if this is better or a little worse to Elvis Costello's album. Grade wise:85

I just finished listening to this on a miserable, drizzly evening, just before bed. Probably a near perfect setting for this cold, sad and lonely, miserable album. It did a really good job of setting a mood. At first, having never experienced a dark jazz album before, I really got into the Lynchian atmosphere, but I must admit after a while the sameness, where the only differences I could really detect from song to song was the length, made me ready for it to end. Yet it still didn't feel as long as it is, so credit to it for that. 7/10, and 39/52 for 2000.
