The newest person to go forward is country singer Razzy Bailey. He was 82 and right now the cause of his passing has not been shared. The only song from him that I know of is one that is on a various artist compilation that I've had in my family since the late 80s named Christmas Wishes. The name of the song is "Peace On Earth (A Song For All Seasons)".

Nanci Griffith passed away last week. Just announced today.

I LOVE Nanci Griffith.

So I'm pouring myself a glass of Irish whiskey and putting this on repeat for a while. Maybe an hour or two. This is one of my favorite performances by pretty much anybody ever. This is one of the most lovely stories ever put to song. It's called "Love At The Five And Dime". Please take a listen, and join me in toasting one of the very best ever.

It has not been a kind year for hip-hop...

Gift of Gab has died at 50.

Sad

Don't think anyone has mentioned the passing of Biz Markie here yet. His influence on hip-hop far exceeded his discography.

Charlie Watts, legendary drummer of the Rolling Stones, has passed away at 80.

Even though he was 80 years old and not in the best of health (the Stone recently announced that Watts would not be able to join them for their upcoming tour because of an unspecified medical procedure; with characteristic self-effacement and humor, Watts himself issued a statement that "For the first time ever, my timing is off"), I still was not expecting this. I wonder if he just didn't want people to know how sick he actually was.

I have always assumed that once Charlie was gone, the Rolling Stones would cease to be. Presumably they're obligated to play out this tour (session drummer and longtime Keith Richards cohort Steve Jordan is filling in behind the kit), but after that I can't see the rest of the band going on, or wanting to.
