Part of the early 90s music explosion that I identify with.

Some think of Green Day as a ridiculous pop punk band... I think they are much more than that. Sum 41 and Green Day have nothing in common for me.

Love:
1. Burnout
4. Longview
5. Welcome To Paradise
6. Pulling Teeth
7. Basket Case
8. She
10. When I Come Around

I actually think that this album is terrible and American Idiot is halfway-tolerable.

It's a really good album that helped bring a sound into the public eye, but it's nowhere near as innovative as it gets credit for. MTX and Sweet Baby had been making music that sounds incredibly similar to this for years by the time Green Day finally released it.

Anywho, solid album, I think I prefer American Idiot but both are pretty good and obviously staples of a genre close to my heart.

Yup, I've laughed about that a few times, thanks for the laugh again.

At the same time I think we can give thanks to bands like The Clash for allowing punk rock to not neatly fit in a box (see what I did there, hehe).

I think it is limiting to think only true punks live in the streets, have an ugly dog, a beer can and cig in hand, and smell like piss.

Musically I think it's limiting to say, for example, also that the Clash are not a punk band... or even Green Day or Nirvana (what's funny is this whole grunge thing, I don't think Nirvana and Soundgarden sound anything alike, and feel Nirvana is closer to punk or even pop punk for that matter (not the normal sum41 flavor, but listen to Molly's Lips and tell me that's not pop punk, but that's just me).

But idk, that's just me. I get why the genre police would get mad at that.

On another note, I think this guy is just as punk rock as any other... sax player rockin on the piano and I don't think those white people really know how to take Little Richard... hehe

you are the last person I'd expect to find American Idiot's half-baked pseudo-political whining anything beyond grating

A lot of my younger self's favorite songs on here. I don't think this is a masterpiece of an album or anything, but a lot of the songs are definitely good.
