The album I always recommend to guitarists to improve their skills...well, if some of them would bother to actually listen to it instead of being so close-minded with their low rate blues rock and homogenised funk jams. I swear, some guitarists need to diversify their life.

Sorry for being scornful, just some pent up irl frustration I have about musicians I know and I don't have anywhere else to vent it. This album is too good to go to waste.

Great record. Its personally number 3 in my BtS albums rank, behind There's Nothing Wrong With Love, and just a little behind Keep It Like A Secret. But really Built To Spill were one of the most exciting bands between 93ish to 2000ish.

While this doesn't have any songs I like quite as much as Sidewalk or Time Trap, this is still my favorite Built to Spill album. I love the sprawling nature of it and how long some of the songs take to develop. Randy Described Eternity is such a special track lyrically and the closer is perfect as well, such a great way to end it. And it doesn't get any better than the climax of Made-Up Dreams, especially:

"It's hard to believe, that after all this time I'm still me"

It's in my top 10. (Keep It Like a Secret and Ancient Melodies... are also faves.)

My comment from my chart: "If I had to pick one song which encapsulates Built To Spill it would be 'Randy Described Eternity'."
