If you reach 1001, do you die?

Strictly speaking I've listened to 387 of those titles.
About another 400ish albums I mostly know what they're about though I've never spin 'em front to back (mostly pop oriented stuff, singles artists and a lot of 90s that was around in my youth).
Clueless about the other 200 albums -most of hip hop and a fair deal of 80s and new stuff mostly-.

edit:

in the stats page there's a list starting from most popular to least popular album among the people who went through the list if anyone's interested.

597 (60%). That was fun if time consuming.

I def recall in my teen years going to the library and picking up this book and flipping through it and checking stuff out. It was an influential book. That was fun.

I only marked albums I've heard front to back. So with that being said I had 249 (25%) (top 12%) and probably another 25+ that I've listened to parts of... Still much work to be done here but pretty good considering my age and short amount of time I've "seriously" listened to music . I've severely neglected the 50s, early 60s, and most of the 80s... But I've got the 70s and 90s pretty well covered Cool

I've never had/read the book and looking up everything (on BEA) was indeed very time consuming

I've heard 597 out of 1001 and I'm ranked 134 and in the top 1%.
But I suppose it's normal since I think I'm about at 75% of my album listening project of the top 2500 of BEA.

I think this book was the impetus for me coming here. I liked the book, but like any individualist, I didn't want to be told which 1001, I wanted to create my own.

I've worked fairly methodically on my lists from '64-'17, and still need to work back to the early 50's. Typically, I begin with making a list of everything I have already, and everything I'm interested in for a given year. From that list of typically 50-60 albums, I listen and cull it down, ending up at around 30.

Doing some sums:

I've listened to approximately 3,300
My list of keepers 1,650

I've overshot the 1,001
