The Costello track is quite nice and certainly among the better latter-day Elvis records, but Formed a Band is just utter blunt brilliance. One of the great one-album wonders of the 00s, and next to "Emily Kane" probably their defining song. Easy vote here.
The Art Brut track is certainly OK but just listen to that Elvis Costello song: not one his best known but it certainly worth to stand next to his other great ballads.
BtW you really did your best to add a personal touch to each of the contributors to this 2000 BST
I thought the Art Brut song was less clever than it thought it was the first time time around, but it still gets my vote here against a middling Elvis ballad. Was never fussed about anything post-Spike, to be honest. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
For two very different songs this was a tough choice for me. I could listen to Elvis Costello sing anything, anytime but personally I will usually choose anything punkish and fun over a piano ballad.
