There were a few years there where a bunch of the major albums were death-focused, weren't there? Thinking of:
- Benji
- Carrie & Lowell
- Blackstar
- Touche Amore's Stage Four
- A Crow Looked At Me
I'm sure there are always a lot of these records but it really stood out to me during that period. Anyway I went with Sufjan because it's the song I listen to more but I love the Bowie song too. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
Love both. A lot. I'm voting Lazarus just because it's off of the superior album, and I'm not sure if that makes sense but I don't care. We have to have Bowie in the last 8. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
Bit gutted Sufjan’s getting trounced here, but totally understandable given it’s up against Bowie.
And interesting about the albums that seem to share a theme about death and loss. I’d add Panda Bear vs The Grim Reaper to that, especially the track Tropic With Cancer which, along with Death With Dignity, both came out in the same year my Mum died and seemed to speak to me directly. So yeah, bit of a personal connection with this pick, if not Sufjan per se. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing Folk 'n Stuff SHAMELESS RECORD DEALER PLUG
Tough, though I think I'm still going Death with Dignity even if it isn't even my favorite Sufjan song in the tournament (though likely a second ouster), still a likely loser and luckily it's to Lazarus
