I was impressed by Ulcerate when I first listened, a little less so now. The Dakh Daughters stuff is an exciting listen. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
While I did like “Rozy”, for me personally, Ulcerate is sublime on this title track for their 2020 LP. The fact that it’s sludgy and crushing, yet beautiful and musical and textured, and that it’s technical and mind-bendingly dense sonically and in terms of arrangement while not being gaudy or showy and always being purposeful, … I don’t know this song and album and band more generally is just about the best metal ever made. Or, okay that was over the top. But they are a band that consistently makes some of my favorite metal music and this song and album is what introduced me to them. It just kicks ass.
Oh and The drummer of Ulcerate is a god. _________________ -Ryan
Hmmm, this was a matchup I admittedly didn't enjoy that much.
Over the top theatrics such as Rozy are hit or miss for me and here it was sadly the latter.
On the other hand, Stare Into Death And Be Still is extremely far from my stuff, excellent musicians doing things I couldn't care less about.
