The title track was one of my least favorites on Dark In Here, but Protect My Energy was my clear least favorite song on SIMBI, straight bad track. Though Simz' album I slighty prefer, Imma go with Mountain Goats (my favorites from it were When A Powerful Animal Comes and To The Headless Horseman, both songs body the title track imo). _________________ My Top 100 :

Hearing Protect My Energy for the first time out of context... I got no sense of her distinct personality out of it. The one time where it feels like a downbeat cover-band version of a minor 80s electro-funk number. And while I've rarely gone out of my way to listen to The Mountain Goats, this is a really good track, effectively gets a little darker as it goes along even at just 3 and a half minutes.
I’m puzzled by both Simz tracks chosen. It comes down to taste. But honestly neither Protect My Energy nor the other track nominated were tracks I heard a lot of praise for on that so what landmark album. Introvert, Woman, I Love You I Hate you, and others got way more hype and imo rightfully. Not a huge fan of either of these songs. But I voted for Mountain Goats by a hair. I didn’t think I’d vote against both Simz Tracks. _________________ -Ryan
You know what? I'm starting to dig Protect My Energy much more. Thought it was the weakest track on the Simz album, but it really isn't. Great funky club-like tune.

Personally, I slightly preferred the deeper cuts on SIMBI, particularly the afrobeat stuff. Though Point and Kill was actually played loads in the UK on 6music. For me, the album was consistently strong so hard to talk about highs and lows. I honestly thought Introvert a weak point though and the only overrated song on the album. It just seemed a bit forced and overblown. Probably just me tho’. Point and Kill and Little Q part two were the obvious ear worms for me. I seem to prefer Simz when she loosens up a bit and has fun.
Anyway, I like Protect my Energy too so gave it my vote. Dark in Here I enjoyed, but not quite as much.
