Honestly this is the closest race of the quarterfinals for me.
"Sins of the Father" was new to me at the start of the tourney, and I haven't yet listened to the whole album. I'm tempted to, if only to give this song more context. But then again, "Like I Used To" is a non-album single, so context may give one side an unfair advantage.
I'm going to mull this over further, but leaning towards "Sins of the Father" at the moment. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
Both fantastic songs, listening to them back to back made my day. At first, I didn't think Like I Used To was that special, but it's grown on me quite a bit. The whole Descendants of Cain album is on another level, almost every single cut (including Sins of the Father) would be one of my favourite songs in this tournament. Tough decision, but I'm probably gonna go with Ka. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
I've been backing both of these throughout the rounds, and I'm cool with either squeezing through. Like I Used To is a stellar single, and it holds its ground as a single, and Sins of the Father is a pivotal piece in the puzzle to an incredible album, but is it genuinely the better track here?
These have been 2 of my faves. And of these quarterfinal matches this is the only one I haven’t voted on yet. These other three were pretty easy choices. This one… brutally close. Will listen to my little playlist I made for this tournament again, relisten to these 2 and decide later.
Edit: okay it was tough as hell even after a couple listens to both. But I just can’t deny the charm of “Like I Used To” personally and I voted for it. Put either of these 2 against Point and Kill and Chaise Longue. That potential alternate universe final four of “anything”, “Back to Oz”, “Sins of the Father” and “Like I Used To” would be absolutely glorious. Oh well. _________________ -Ryan
Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen - Like I Used To
I took a chance and read the technical translation of the lyrics.
The palisade of metaphors hid the details of the whole story from the uninitiated.
Another reflection on loneliness, only this time as freedom?
I will support this song even with such a utopian idea.))
Ka - Sins of the Father
In the last round, I chose the opposite side.
I lacked musicality, although the atmosphere was as close as possible.
I often pay attention to songs with the pathos of the anthem.
But the pathos of the lyrics without musical support remained unclaimed again.
Going for the nail-biting finish, though I think the tiebreaker is unfavourable for me, let's see what happens. _________________ Bob Dylan Charles Mingus
