What would be your vote for the greatest Manchester album of all time? It's a close call for me with Joy Division, Smiths and Stone Roses having such strong contenders.

Great subject - so many fantastic records have come out of Manchester...

My top 3 would be

1.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths

2.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses

3.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths

Has to be the Queen is Dead for me, although both of the Joy Division records come close

If you ask me, this one is the Manchester GOAT:

What Does Anything Mean? Basically by The Chameleons

But there's also...

A Different Kind Of Tension by Buzzcocks

Most people rate Singles Going Steady higher, which is understandable, except it's a compilation album. And the Buzzcocks also gave rise to Magazine, who were less Manchester-oriented but still were formed there, so they should count:

Secondhand Daylight by Magazine

Here's one most people have never heard of โ€”ย it's not in the running for "greatest of all time" though, it's just a personal favorite.

One Black Dot by The Mothmen

And of course you can't forget these guys:

Introducing Herman's Hermits by Herman's Hermits

Don't forget New Order! Substance, Technique, and Power, Corruption & Lies are all in contention for me.

For me as well. Though I do like the Smiths albums pretty evenly, Iโ€™d still have to pick this one as the best.

Hatful Of Hollow by The Smiths

this one for me
Queen is Dead is great but Hatful pips it for me, even though it's not a studio album proper.
