Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.0/100, a mean average of 73.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

It is such a shame that a band which has turned out such intelligent and complex music on previous albums came up with such an immature and stupid title for an album! The title itself gives the impression that the ideas engine is strarting to run dry. The New Kings is a good track but sounds similar to previous work in so many ways. I've listened to this once since I bought it when it was first released, perhaps I should give it another spin. The low score is partly due to the uninspiring title and partly due to the general lack of inventiveness.

the songs flow slowly, intriguingly and majestic

This shouldn't be in my top 100. It is largely dull and pretty much on the same vein as Sounds... Marillion really do leave you guessing whether you will like or loathe their albums. Love Marbles, Love Somewhere Else. Not a fan of this.

I think the band hyped this one up a little too much. Seems like an album made of lots of bits of music thrown together without much regard for cohesion or seamless transitions. Some great, really great in fact, but some pretty average. Also, too much lyrical emphasis here, with music seeming to take a backseat. Living in Fear is a bit of an annoying song too. Decent effort overall though.

A great Prog album, without a doubt! It is not easy to keep attention when we have songs with 19 minutes (and the smallest has about 7 minutes) but when we reach the end we know that it was worth it.
Congratulations Marillion, more than 30 years of career and still with so much to give us!
