Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 74.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

American Slang is another excellent record from Gaslight Anthem. Blue-collar nostalgia is back and the punk influences melt away into heartland rock. It's a worthy follow-up to The '59 Sound.

Track Pick: Diamond Church Street Choir
Gems: Queen of Lower Chelsea, Boxer

This is a very good album. There are obvious comparisons with Springsteen and The Hold Steady. Never liked the billing that journalists gave them as the new E Street Band. That was unfair. Just enjoy a great album / band.

I've heard the Springsteen sound in these guys. I don't think the voice of the singer is near as good. Could they do this as well..."got a wife and kid in Baltomore Jack, I went out for a ride and I never came back. Like a river than dont know whre its floing, I took a wrong turn and I just kept going." No. This band will never sell out huge stadiums like the Boss. Still their third album is great, just cant be billed as the next E Street band.

Are this guys the new replacements?? Cause it really sounds really like them. Easy going, powerful lyrically and non pretencious musically. A delightful material

An interesting contrast to The Hold Steady's "Heaven is Whenever" which is also heavily influenced by early Bruce Springsteen. Very enjoyable and one of the better albums of 2010 but I don't think they are in the same league as the E Street Band when they were in their prime. Maybe if they had a saxaphone :)
