Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.2/100, a mean average of 78.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

An album so truly great that I can't even put it into words. The nautical themes are consistent without overwhelming the music, and make for an incredibly cohesive album. Despite the occasional inconsistency in quality, there isn't a bad song here. Even the "weakest" tracks, Glitter Freeze and Sweepstakes, have many redeeming qualities, be it the formers incredible synth work or the latters horn section that bursts in midway through the song, transforming the groove.

Best tracks: Rhinestone Eyes, Empire Ants, On Melancholy Hill, Some Kind of Nature.
Worst tracks: None really.

Fav. track: On melancholy hill
Most underrated track: Some Kind Of Nature
Least Fav. track: Glitter Freeze

The atmosphere of this album is amazing! From start to finish a great experience. With every listen to this album it sounds better then the previous listen. My all-time favourite song is on here: On melancholy hill and even the filler Glitter Freeze fits great into this record. For me, this is the best album of the Gorillaz and also the best of all time, because I never get tired of listening to it and it combines so many different genres.

Top 5 tracks from this album:
1. On Melancholy Hill
2. Empire Ants
3. Rhinestone Eyes
4. Some Kind Of Nature
5. Stylo

Very solid album. I get why people think this is one of the greatest albums.
For me though, it's not really my style.

Best tracks: on melancholy hill, ampire ants.

Worst track: sweepstakes

Gorillaz and Demon Days were solid albums, but Plastic Beach is clearly on another level. Sorry, but it’s not even close. This is a magnum opus. From On Melancholy Hill to Empire Ants to Broken to Rhinestone Eyes, it fills you with awe, wonder, and vibes. Not only as an apparatus of songs, it flows as one cohesive sound throughout the album.

Each song has a catchy hook to hang on, to reach the surface of the plastic beach. My favourites are: Stylo, Empire Ants, On Melancholy Hill and Broken.

Third part of the Gorillaz saga, "Plastic Beach" allows Damon Albarn to continue his progress in experimental hip-hop and electronic music. Announced by its author as the most pop album of Gorillaz, it is actually the least accessible record of the band, influenced by hip-hop. Dark, twisty and twisted, "Plastic Beach" is nevertheless hypnotizing. With huge featurings (Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, Mark E. Smith of The Fall, Mos Def, Bobby Womack, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of Clash), the album comes with a funny concept: after the destruction of the studios Kong of the band, the album was recorded on an island of garbage abandoned by humans, located at Point Nemo. Dark, daring and influenced by hip-hop: so I really liked this Gorillaz album, one of the best with "Demon Days".

Best track: "On Melancholy Hill"

I want to agree that the atmosphere on this album is probably the greatest thing about it. The album is almost rather a various artists effort than really a Damon Albarn project, but still the album is very consistent with its sound. Which is probably the reason for this unique atmosphere.
