I totally get why a lot of people have the conception of Kanye that they do, but if part of that conception is that he's not a real artist, they probably just haven't heard this album yet. (Edited)

Well this went from one of my least favorite albums ever, to one of my fav hip hop albums ever. Took a year, but this is legit. Monster is fuckin SICK. (Edited)

My favorite Album of all time, and soon-to-be contender of the greatest album of all time. Kanye crafts a lush, nuanced, and dark meditation on fame and celebrity excess and unwittingly creating one of the greatest explorations of the human ego ever. Many reviewers will comment that the maximalist and ground-breaking production are what really carry this album, I disagree. West drops some of his, and some of rap musics, greatest verses. Lines like "I was looking at my resume / feeling real fresh today / they rewrite history, I don't believe in yesterday / And what's a black Beatle anyway/ A fucking roach? / I guess thats why they got me sitting in coach." are as brutally honest as they are funny. He out rhymes some of his most accomplished contemporaries at the height of their talents, while out producing every one. Period. The beats on this album are painstakingly crafted individual masterpieces, but as a whole create one of the most compelling compositions of the past decade. From the schizophrenic tribal drums of "Monster" to the cathartic blues guitar riff on "Gorgeous." Every single beat was as immediate as it was memorable. There are endless pop culture and not-so-pop culture references on this album as well, these allusions give the album a sense of humor and stops it from feeling like a over-bearing stream of consciousness. Even songs that I personally thought were average among the rest ("Blame Game" and "Hell of a Life") are miles ahead of what anyone else in hip hop was doing at the time, and have done to this day.

Besides the top-notch songwriting and epic production work, this is a surprisingly introspective and emotional album. Sure, there is little to relate to (unless you are an arrogant, rude and incredibly rich person working for the musical industry, living the dream of materialism) but the way I see this, Yeezy intended this kind of detachment. What could be the purpose of this last thing? To make this look like a confession or just to display his ego once again over a super-ambitious project while making this unintentionally a very dark portrait of a man lost in his overwhelming egoism? One way or another (well, the second part is more like it) this is a masterpiece with amazing emotional impact-and Runaway is unlike anything else I have ever listened to so far.

Great Album. But not in all of the ways ! mostly because the music and vocals. The lyrics ... no. Maybe the only good lyrics on the album are Runaway and Lost in the world.Power is great musically but still lacks in lyric.This album really "shaped" Hip hop.But somehow ruined it too.You could use less "electric Sounds" on the beats too keep it classic.But it wasn't meant to be so.

And the songs really sound great together,so this is a good point but most of eminem's albums have this point so not sth special.

As you see in my chart,i'm not a hip hop fan. But Kanye west just know too well what do to.So i think this album isn't just for hip hop fans

btw Isn't the Song Runaway underrated ?
