Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 75.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

With just one record, The Gaslight Anthem took the tired pop-punk "orgcore" scene and blasted it with melodies, dynamics, forlorn vocals and lyrics panting images of old-school blue-collar America. The album arguably transformed the pop-punk scene for the next decade, perhaps being responsible for albums like "On the Impossible Past" by the Menzingers, "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" by Against Me! and countless albums by The Killers. It's nice to see such heartfelt and nostalgic lyrics accompanied by such an impassioned and energetic performance.

Essential.

I've never been into guys like Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen, so I really can't tell what makes these guys so enjoyable.

Reading good reviews for this album I was looking forward to checking it out and after 2 full listens I gotta say I ultimately came away disappointed .

After the excellent opener 'Great Expectations' the album meanders along with rollicking track after rollicking track none of which hit any real heights until track 9 'Even Cowgirls Get The Blues' offers a much needed change of pace and is easily the best thing on the album . Another change of pace in track 11'Heres Looking At You Kid' is also good .

At the end of the day I've saved the excellent 'Even Cowgirls Get The Blues ' onto a playlist how ever apart from that I wont be back.

This is The Gaslight Athem's best album. It gives nodes to Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, both in the music and in the lyrics.

I love this album. Interesting influences from The Pretenders (mid 80s), early U2 and of course Bruce Springsteen.

Favorite tracks: The '59 Sound, High Lonesome, Miles Davis & The Cool, The Patient Ferris Wheel
Less favorite tracks: Casanova, Baby!, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues

It ain't innovative, but it's still a very strong take on classic working-class-warrior rock, even if it's a bit rhyme over reason at this point. "Great Expectations" though, is undeniably stellar.

Definitely the best Gaslight album, their songwriting is much better here than on the rest. The Patient Ferris Wheel is one of my all time favorite songs.

One of the best albums I've ever heard, there really isn't a bad song on it.

This is a great album, with a wonderful flow. From the opening Great Expectations to the final The Backseat, it propels along with heart and soul.
