Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 75.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.9.

Solid album, but not much reason to put this one on often over The Band's first two albums or Northern Lights—Southern Cross... it's just a little regular compared to those records. Definitely a couple tracks worth looking out for though, namely The Shape I'm In, The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show, and the title track.

After the musically and thematically ambitious The Band, Stage Fright is a much more modest and stripped back effort. The songs are much more personal, with the group telling their own stories rather than America’s stories; the title track is about Robertson’s struggle with stage fright in his career.

Not as brilliant or essential as their first two albums, but still a very good record. Easily, their third best album.

Not their best record and certainly not their worst. A bit of a let down considering their previous albums.

The musical atmosphere has fallen off from the last album.

While not bad in any definition of the word, this is a pale record in comparison with the one preceding it. Shape I'm In and W.S. Walcott Medicine Show stand out.
