Robert Forster has gone on record to say that his favourite Go-Betweens albums from the 1980s were the even numbered ones, so fourth album Liberty Belle And The Black Diamond Express is one of the good ones by his reckoning. Forster who dominates this record with the singles ‘Head Full Of Steam’ (apparently an attempt to emulate Prince!) and ‘Spring Rain’, both melodic and driving.

A beautiful album filled with so many great tracks. A perennial favourite.
Brilliant album bookended by two Go Betweens classics...Spring Rain and Apology Accepted. Love this record!!!

Best album by Australian group The Go-Betweens, expanded with added orchestration and the multi-instrumental talents of one Dean Speedwell. With this album The Go-Betweens cemented a reputation for all time.
