Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.3/100, a mean average of 79.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

Completely reorients their new wave/synthpop sound to something more organic and patient. Something that is both quieter, yet so much bigger. You can see them perfecting perfect pop music in one breath, then laying the groundwork for the band's most important music in another. A perfect liminal album.
They merge synth-pop with funk and create rich and fresh sound on this album. Very joyful and enjoyable listen.
The beginning of what will be something so special in music… not often are artists left to make what they want - esp when it’s not deemed commercially lucrative. Love this album. It is somewhat eclipsed by the spirit of Eden. Hollis was clearly a very talented chap, and thankfully the record company let him do what he wanted. I feel very lucky when I listen to these albums. Thoughtful, beautiful, honest, melancholy. It’s always a pleasure.

Airy and nonchallenging mid 80's art-pop. A very listenable and club-friendly album,
good art pop - mid 80s was the peak of pop music
If it weren't for what came after, this would be held in much higher regard.

The Colour of Spring is much more than a transitional album from It's My Life to Spirit of Eden. This album indulges the listeners in some lush art pop arrangements while simultaneously lurching forward to their eventual genesis of an entire new genre.
I think of this as the album that straddles between the two versions of Talk Talk. Highlighting an elegantly evolved sound from the first couple of records, this one definitely predicts their future direction. This album is filled to the brim with beauty and I adore it almost as much as their last two albums
Favorite tracks: Life's What You Make It, I Don't Believe In You, Happiness Is Easy, Living In Another World

The first album in the Talk Talk 5 star holy trinity (1986 'The Colour of Spring' , 1988 'Spirit of Eden' , 1991 'Laughing Stock') with each great album better than the next and ending with the closing masterpiece. Start here and work forward to hear some of the greatest music of our times
Note: 'The Colour Of Spring' has for the first time quite rightly entered the BEA All-Time top 500 righting what I believed was a glaring anomaly

Best track: "Time It's Time"
Weakest track: "Living In Another World"
