Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 83.1/100, a mean average of 81.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

It's really hard to identify with Metal once you grow up.
Many people force it or establish some kind of religious connection with the genre.
Never have I ever met someone who never heard metal when they were young and start to listen to it.
That said it doesn't get me for the heavy thing or aggressiveness but as an interesting musical treaty with overdriven guitars.
So if the raw power doesnt do the trick for you there's still something left to appreciate.

Just as good as ride the lightning, but without any filler tracks (escape)

Definitely less memorable on side two, but earns its place in the metal canon.

Genre defining album, but I find that it lacks severely in comparison to "Ride the Lightning". It feels less metal, less heavy, less energetic, too clean. Overall, 70/100.

I liked this album so much more than The Black Album! I'm starting to see the appeal of metal now.

The 2nd and 3rd albums are great because Cliff Burton showed James how to construct songs. Still don't know why lars is given credit to any of the writing. However, one of the reasons why the bass was omitted on the fourth album was to pay tribute to Burton.

The best Metallica album. This is furious stuff. The gold standard of trash metal with the title track being one of the greatest metal songs ever
