Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

Love this album, so much fun should be outlawed! Fantastic hip hop beats.
I admire the influence of this album, but the songs here are mixed bag for me, I like Rhymin & Stealin, Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn.

Thought I would enjoy this, but really didn't. Fight for your right, Brass Monkey, No Sleep Til Brooklyn and Slow & Low are good, but the rest of the album is just annoying to listen to
Solid
Third rap/hip hop album today. Powerful and kind catchy& accessible even for a non-hip-hop fan
Amazing from the first beat to the last!
If this album sounds like a group of boys goofing around then that’s exactly what it is. When ‘Liscenced To Ill’ was released in November 1986 Ad-Rock had only just turned 20 , MCA only just turned 22 and Mike D a baby at only 19 yo
But boy did this goofing around resonant with the buying public with this album a global smash on its way to being the highest selling rap album of the 80’s
Note 1: “ You Gotta Fight...” is actually an anti party song poking fun at the macho stereotypes around the party culture, an irony lost on the perpetrators themselves who dug this song
Note 2: I have always love love loved the heavy guitars in “ You Gotta Fight...” and in particular the “Klang Klang Klang” percussion that accompanies the guitars. I’d love to know what this sound is made by? It sounds like the Anvil The Beatles used in “Maxwells Silver Hammer” . If anyone knows post here or PM me
Note 3: “Girls Girls Girls “ totally blows and I always skip it
Don't really get how this one gets overshadowed by Paul's Boutique. It's much rawer and realer. They sound like a bunch of boys having fun, I love it.
