I also have to add that when M.I.A. makes the exact same album with more filler (Kala) critics cum all over it, and when she does something truly new and innovative the critics have their doubts. Draw your lesson from this: the album that gets the most mixed reviews is probably a masterpiece.

those chainsaws, the eccentricity, that manic production! M.I.A's third LP "Maya" is a slice of brilliant avant-pop/hip-hop/punk that'll certainly be remembered as the weirdest and most polarising piece of art from one of the most controversial sonic geniuses of our generation. A sorely underappreciated, boundary-pushing album with a great aesthetic, so much swagger and really catchy songs with scathing subtext as well. Everything you could ask from, and far more, from a pop star.

M.I.A. provides about half an hour of wonderful cohesive music. The rest is often interesting and often irritating layered noise which I only need to hear once.
