Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.4/100, a mean average of 72.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

A very pretty album with atmosphere that sort of floats away into the ether, not really leaving much of an impression.
This may be GAS's most accomplished album (although I will admit, I've yet to hear Rausch). The usual smudged beats and washes are augmented with bona fide synthesizer noises. It still sounds like the memory of a rave, but a more well-defined one, as if you didn't have quite as much to drink.
I was under the impression that the atmosphere built throughout "Narkopop", not to mention the techno beats, would have sustained the average listener's interest, but apparently not. Fresh from receiving a scathing 2/10 from the musicosphere's biggest idiot anthony fantano, this record gained unnecessary hatred from a sizeable percentage of listeners. However, this dark, exquisite treat from Gas rises to the top regardless of mixed response or treading previous ground because of the sheer beauty of the record and the undeniable primal response that it triggers from your body. Voigt, como siempre, maravilloso. La capacidad que tiene de sacar provecho a cada recurso que utiliza, sigue vigente, en el que es probablemente su mejor trabajo en años.
Personally, when it comes to ambient music..I find it hard to chart and compare to other albums. Simply because these others album can garner more interest and replay value. Something like Gas' Narkopop says replay value at an alarming rate. But what a one time listen can say is "absolutely calming and blissful". An album to put on for a mid-afternoon nap and let your mind wander. And as an ambient album goes there are no much changes in sound, but there is enough that can be heard so you know all the songs are not one infinite loop.
Yeah, again..maybe not one that I'll be hooked on, but I enjoyed the experience I got with this and I will maybe once in a while come back to visit.
