Cindy Walker was an incredible Texas songwriter who wrote hundreds of songs for other artists. She is a monumental figure for women in music, particularly from the state of Texas.

Thankfully, someone had the sense to convince Walker to record herself singing her songs. This was the only record she ever recorded.

The songs are timely and the presentation is an interesting combination of Nashville country and classic pop, a difficult style which Mickey Newbury would master many decades later.

"You Don't Know Me" was included in Ray Charles's album "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music" and "Blue Canadian Rockies" was recorded by Gram Parsons for the Byrds album "Sweethearts of the Rodeo."

Recommended.
