Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.4/100, a mean average of 78.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

A landmark of 60s psychedelia and the culmination of the Dead's first period--two months after this was released, with Tom Constanten fired (yay! he's terrible!), they went into the studio and recorded Workingman's Dead and transformed into the 70s Dead, which is a completely different sound. On a lot of the live recordings that have come out in the Dick's Picks series and so on, Constanten's soulless and meaningless playing really ruin the experience for me; here he's not so ridiculously high in the mix and doesn't get in the way, making this the definitive place to experience 60s Dead for me. In other words, this is really pretty fantastic--true, deep psychedelia.
The Greatest of all JAM BANDS
Best GD album imo
interesting groundbreaking live
Maravilha de viagem sonora! Portal de tempo e viagem de ácido ao mesmo tempo!
The tracks sound like long jams. Conceptually great, and therefore probably also praised at the time. But retrospectively, this just gets on your nerves. There are few to no moments that really burst of emotion or expression, and when they try to, it sounds really tame and predictable, because they have to stay in that annoying, dynamicless jam. Just having nice effects on your guitar is not gonna replace the soul that should be in your music; you need both.
Possibly the greatest live album ever along with "Kick Out The Jams" & "The Who Live At Leeds"!
One might take or leave "Dark Star", but the St Steven -> The Eleven -> Love Light sequence is what for me is mind-blowing in its ecstatic progression. I think Live/Dead is in fact a concept album - a passage from the primordial beginnings, through the dance of life, to the realization of mortality and finally into nonexistence. Might be even better under the influence...
Dark Star is a acid trip
It's fun. The Grateful Dead do not fail to jam and please. Don't come in with crazy expectations and just chill.
