Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.6/100, a mean average of 81.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Some great live performances scattered amongst this album which really show the Grateful Dead at their peak and demonstrate just how brilliant they were. Live renditions of songs like Truckin', Brown Eyed Women, Ramble On Rose and Jack Straw are simply phenomenal and they almost sound like studio recordings from how clean they are. Instrumentally, this album is fantastic as well with the lead guitar and piano being the two that stand out to me the most. They are both extremely effective and are beautifully played on basically every track. The record flows very well also and the track selection is amazing as they all blend together so well. However, the record is bloated and some songs are a little weak as they lack some flare present on other cuts. Some songs feel drawn out a little as well and they lack the punch present on songs like Morning Dew, which is a perfect closer and is my favourite track. Overall, a great live album that demonstrates some fantastic musicianship but could do with some cutting down to make it more digestible and consistent.

Sides 1 and 4 are the Dead at their very best. Fantastic. The other sides are only a slight drop-off. Famously, there are a lot of studio overdubs on this; you can hear it in the vocals...not a problem, good choice, using the live tracks as a base and then cleaning it up. Many of these tunes have their definitive versions on this album as a result. Even the album cover was fantastic on the triple LP. Bozo or Bolo?...either way, happy trails.

My favorite Grateful Dead standard official relaese. A tad higher than American Beauty & Workingman's. The best "Sugar Magnolia" Ever! Great renditions of most tracks, well played, nice production - overdubs; A great listening experience always! Regular rotation spot this one always has in my world. MEZ
