Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.5/100, a mean average of 80.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

The best and most unique album I have ever heard. Right from the opener you know it's going to be good, and the last three tracks make for a transcendental ending.
Best tracks:
- Last Living Souls
- Kids With Guns
- O Green World
- Feel Good Inc.
- El Manana
- Every Planet We Reach is Dead
- November Has Come
- Don't Get Lost in Heaven/Demon Days

Fav. Track: Feel good inc.
Most underrated Track: Last Living Souls
Least Fav. Track: White Light

I can see the argument for it being the best Gorillaz album, but I do like the atmosphere of Plastic Beach a little bit more, but with that being said this album is fantastic! The atmosphere is great, the flow is fantastic and I like every track from it.

Top 5 tracks from the album:

I remember this being one of the first albums I ever owned. I got it for my 13th birthday (Feel Good Inc was probably my favorite song of that year). I remember listening to it and shrugging the rest of the album off.

Returning to it after 15 years brings up different feelings for me. I have more of a mature and open-minded perspective as to how music is created and the effort that can go into the production. This album is very mature- with complex post-9/11 themes of isolationism, environmentalism, self-deprecation, and rise in technology in society reflected in the digital musicality of the album. Damon Albarn meticulously put this together with a very particular sound in mind and it shows.

The album aged very well, aging much better than all the rap and rock-rap of the '00s that was released before and after it. It's thought-provoking, fearful, melancholic, and still fun. It's 15 songs long but without any unnecessary skits nor any over-bloated 6 or 7-minute epics. It's tightly compacted in a 55-minute capsule.

I'd say the only knocks I have against it are that some of the tracks feel like they are journeys without destinations. And the last 4 songs are just fine, nothing extravagant that qualifies as a sort of banger, leaving the album on a somewhat stagnant note. But it's still a good album that I'm sure I'll return to (and I won't wait 15 years to do so).

80/100

Filled with hits and a few that don't quite hit home with me. Nevertheless, a very engaging listen, and one of the reasons I started loving Gorillaz. Catchy, unique, and memorable.

Favorite tracks: Feel Good Inc., DARE, Kids with Guns, El Manana

Gorillaz hasn't really stuck with me over the years. All the quality of the project lies in its grandiosity. And I would admit his idea of forming a sort of artist collective is innovative, but I think Plastic Beach better exemplifies that. On this album it sounds rather cheap sometimes the large amount of collaborators. But it did work out, I won't deny that.

Others have spoken more eloquently, so I won’t bother being lengthy. This is a Top 10 album all time in my opinion that only grows stronger with each passing year.
