Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.5/100, a mean average of 67.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.6.

'Meltdown' sees Ash leave their punk and Britpop roots and tackle some sort of hard rock instead. Their punk-influenced hard rock is most likely not going to appeal to true fans of the genre, but those seeking a more harsh and loud sound in contrast to some of the bands later albums will be pleased.

Despite their turn to the dark side, Ash still stays true to their simple melodies. 'Meltdown' is a good example of a rock band experimenting with a heavier sound, without becoming too unwelcoming for mainstream audiences. Most songs on the album remain closer to post-grunge and heavier alternative than true hard rock. The heaviest songs bare a close resemblance to Ash's early punk days, most notably their debut 'Trailer'.

'Meltdown' has its moments, ironically in the more typical Ash songs. The other tracks feel half-heartedly thrown together. This is not as great as Ash's late 90s albums but better than some other LPs the band has released. There's little point with a hard rock sound if a band does next to nothing to actually utilize it.

Listened to it today after 10 years. Not so bad, pretty catchy songs

Still hitting the sky. Still barking out the fine youth. While not having a 'Shining Light' or 'Burn Baby Burn' the ablum holds out until the end. A volcanic eruption.
