Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.7/100, a mean average of 69.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

Yeah, twitter drama aside, I think for the most part everything that's been said is (close to) fairly accurate so far. The passion is definitely there, they have a lot of important things to say and Camp Cope are at their most effective when it's blunt, fiery and confrontational. Unfortunately there's a bit of a discrepency between the passion of their lyrics and the force of their music, which seems a bit too tame at times for the message they're trying to get across and attention as a listener can kind of drift in & out during the album which is at odds when they're trying to bring urgent clarity to the album's vital (if at times a bit muddy) overall message and many personal stories contained within.

A great opener-closer and some incendiary tracks in between definitely make this worthwhile if a bit dissapointing overall. I have a feeling, though, as they grow more confident not just at delivering polemics & stories of personal anguish but as performers/composers they're really going to wow everybody, hopefully a few poorly phrased tweets doesn't doom them to life as an eternal culture-war hot potato.

twitter stupidity aside, these girls did very good and i enjoyed the sounds they made and stories they told. also as a survivor of abuse of sorts myself that kinda shit spoke to me; their arrogance on the internet did not - but you can like art and think the artist is a bonehead y'feel me

What I think Brad is missing in his review is that the broad range of topics he thinks the album is about -lovers, booking agents, etc- are secondary. The album is first and foremost about male abuse of power, sexual assault, female empowerment, at times written in the context of topics like lovers and agents. I really don't know how someone can write a review about this album without talking about these things.

For example, the Face of God is, yes, about Georgia and a "lover", but this lover abused his position as a well known musician and refused to take "no" for an answer. It's explicitly in the lyrics, so I don't see how someone can say a strong point is the lyrical content and then ignore what the lyrics are saying. There are a couple of lines in the first song that say "It's another all-male tour preaching equality / It's another straight cis man who knows more about this than me." Its literally all there. This is why bands like Camp Cope are necessary, and why their tenacious and unapologetic lyrics and singing style are important. They clearly and loudly tell people about the shit they deal with. And then people ignore what they're saying. Boggles my mind.
