Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 16% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 74.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.0.

4 years on from 2014's 'Stay Gold' (!!!) the Soderberg sisters return with 'Ruins' , an album built around a broken engagement and it's subsequent fallout
The album sports a mightily impressive support cast in none other than R.E.M's Peter Buck (I'm not worthy) , Wilco's Glen Kotche and producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists , My Morning Jacket) and it shows with slick production , lush instrumentation and an over all more confident product than previous albums
It pretty much boils down to this: if your a fan of First Aid Kit ( which I am ) your going to love 'Ruins' ( which I do )

A really good folk pop album. Abba-esque vocals. I liked it.
Don't really understand the lukewarm response to this album. Peeling away some of the psychadelia and reverb makes for a more melodic and personal album in my opinion.

Their best since, The Lion's roar. It's growing on me with each listen. When I first heard it I thought it was okay but repeated listens bring out the songs more and more. A good record.
