Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 71.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

This album was shortlisted at the 1966 Grammys for album of the year. The winner that year was September Of My Years by Frank Sinatra

The movie and the soundtrack are both phenomenal. However I have an odd qualm about them when they're combined (which I guess... is just the movie): almost every single song could be removed from the movie and the plot would remain the same. Very little of the movie's plot is advanced via the songs, and quite frankly some songs introduce sub-plots that distract from the main theme of the movie (e.g. "Sixteen Going On Seventeen"). However, a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the musical numbers in the film simply serve to establish Maria's bonding with the Von Trapp children.
Regardless of my silly issues, these are some of the most iconic tunes ever. Not just film songs or show tunes, but of any music ever. "My Favorite Things" and "Do-Re-Mi" are the songs that many English-speaking children grow up with, they're so ubiquitous that it's almost hard to believe that these tunes haven't been around forever. It's an incredible testament to Rodgers & Hammerstein that they were able to compose music that's joined tunes like the Ode to Joy, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", or "Happy Birthday" as some of the most recognizable stuff out there.

68/100
Best tracks: The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things
Worst tracks: Do Re Mi, So Long Farewell, Processional and Maria, Edelweiss

This was a rare musical where every last song is memorable in some way. Probably the greatest achievement in the genre in that sense. There's more catchy melodies and get-stuck-in-your-head tunes on this soundtrack than any other... or just about any other album of any type for that matter.
Its a fun musical I guess.

They really don't make musicals like this anymore...
One of the greatest musicals ever!

I agree with what Xavygravy said. Edelweiss, The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi and My Favorite Things are simple, yet amazing and enjoyable songs! The movie is really great too.
One of the greatest soundtracks and musicals in history.
