Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.0/100, a mean average of 80.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

A brilliant display of how amazing Nina Simone was as a vocalist as she absolutely nails every single track. Her voice is so unique and separates her from the competition around her at the time. This is one of the best records to prove that as she dominates every song and shows the control she has over her voice. This is best displayed on the tracks Trouble In Mind, Strange Fruit and Tell Me More And More And Then Some. Where she is at her peak though is on Sinnerman which I would argue is one of the best songs she ever recorded. She is backed up quite well on all the songs with some fun instrumentation that has moments where it shines but lets her voice do the talking. The standout is the piano for me as it has these little flourishes which add so much to the music. However, where the record is let down is in some of the weaker songs as there are a couple of filler tracks. The instrumentation feels a little slow and repetitive on these songs and I do get bored when they come on. If you swapped these songs out for more infectious ones or just cut them out completely then the record would be much better and would feel more cohesive. These are only a few songs on the album so it doesn't spoil the album completely. Overall, an album full to brim with soul and that is mainly down to a stunning vocal performance that blows me away with every listen.
She has nice voice and last two songs are excellent, very enjoyable listen.

Serious blues..

89/100
Best tracks: Be My Husband, Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out, Tell Me More and More and Then Some, Strange Fruit, Sinnerman
Worst track: Chilly Winds Don't Blow (still a great track!)

One of the best albums ever. The last two tracks could make any album great but the rest is not easy cake either!

When I listened to the album I thought "Be My Husband" was easily the biggest success of the piece, what a disappointment, the song is shamefully underrated.
One of the great albums of the sixties

An already wonderful record....and then those last two tracks.

Wow. What a brilliant record!
