Three reasons this album so incredible.

1. Otis Redding's voice is beyond belief.

2. The musicians: Backed by Steve Cropper - lead guitar/ Donald Dunn - bass/ Isaac Hayes – keyboards/ Al Jackson, Jr. – drums/ The Memphis Horns

3.The songs: Redding wasn't just an interpreter of other people's songs, but a solid songwriter is his own right. (Edited)

Soul 101 right here. A true mark of a great album is when it is actually better than a greatest hits compilation by the same artist. That is definitely true here. The versions of Wonderful world, Satisfaction and My girl here are just incredible.

Listening to the world-weariness of Otis Redding's voice on these recordings, it's hard to believe he was only 24 years old when he pulled together some of the world's greatest soul musicians to make this incredible album. "Ole Man Trouble" is one of Redding's most introspective compositions, and showcases not only his vocal abilities, but also his emotional range as a songwriter. (Edited)

This is Otis Redding's vocals at their best. This album would be even higher if he hadn't wasted his time covering some rock tracks that didn't suit his style. Regardless, one can't argue with the winners here (first half is pure gold). (Edited)

This album is one of the most pleasant and fun albums ever recorded. It is impossible to listen to this record and not just fall in love with the vocal and the vibe of the music. They are enjoying creating music and that really shows in the outstanding instrumental performances throughout. Then you look at the quality of performers that was on this record and I am stunned. With Booker T. & The M.G.'s and Isaac Hayes present there is no shock about why this album is a musical marvel. Across the whole album every instrument is played perfectly and that is what creates such a joy filled experience. The songs Redding wrote that are on this record are phenomenal as well and the selection of covers fit the style of music they are going for perfectly and create 32 minutes of cohesion that just flies by. Then there is the vocal, which I would argue is the greatest voice we have ever been blessed enough to hear. His vocal control is on another level and the nuances he has are second to none. Redding guides us through this record and sends on a rollercoaster ride the whole way through and it is an amazing thing to be able to experience and feel a part of. Overall, this album is a masterpiece and really deserves the praise it gets as it has one of the best vocal performances ever, one of the best soul instrumental performances ever and it never fails to make me happy whenever I listen to it. This is a must listen and a vital record in music history. (Edited)
