Socialmente, Estados Unidos vivía una etapa turbulenta bajo la Administración del Presidente Bush, y con la Guerra de Irak como telón de fondo, Lamb of God se destapó como una de las nuevas bandas a seguir. Los ingredientes de la receta estaban claros, con un Groove Metal donde los hermanos Adler se repartían el protagonismo instrumental mientras que Randy Blythe mostraba al mundo una agresividad vocal sin límites. Estamos ante uno de los mejores discos de lo que se conoció como NWOAHM. La ejecución en la batería de Chris Adler es sencillamente espectacular, y canciones ya clásicas como "Omerta", "Hourglass" o "Laid to Rest" nos dan buena prueba de la importancia de Lamb of God dentro del circuito internacional. Una banda a tener presente siempre con un disco como 'Ashes of the Wake', que tiene un nivel sobresaliente.
