This is some of the more interesting music I've encountered in a while. It is Braxton live, along with electric guitar, bass, and drums. The interplay between the guitar and Braxton's horns is quite mesmerizing, and having the standards as a jumping off point in all of these compositions leads to wonderful and unique efforts from both. Some devolve into solo improv with the melody and rhythm almost being done away with, while others almost play it straight. It's quite a wonderful experience all the way thru, though terribly long. It should really be approached as five different albums. However, its not a bad entry point for his discography I think, as it mostly stays this side of mayhem (though the times it doesn't are some of the album's best). If you're up for 300 minutes of the finest reimaginations of jazz standards big and small, you have found your final destination.
