Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

Super Furry Animals never really got back the magic which made their debut so special. Everything on it sounded like a potential single and they were press darlings who people couldn't' quite pin point. As much acoustic as they are in writing rough and ready electric guitar riffage, they had potential for a HUGE group. Like breaking America huge. However it was 1996 when their debut came and by the time of subsequent releases America was getting pretty tired of the UK and their parka jackets. No hamburgers and hospital bills for you Super Furries! Coming in after 'Radiator' this is a lot stron... no no I'm sorry. I have to get this off my chest. Who names an album 'Radiator' seriously... it's just. Go on Wikipedia. Go right now and look. There was an album named 'Radiator'! What were they thinking!? Do you want your new bands in search of Beatlemania to name songs 'Office Supplies' or 'Desk Lamp'. Ah, forget it. Lot my diverse than previous album. 'Northern Lites' is an ice cold coca cola commercial waiting to happen with hooks as dangerous as black ice. The band try new ground with relative ease. 'Night Vision' starts like a song off Raw Power or something equally dirty. 'Some Things Come From Nothing' has this strange electronic thing which sounds like it came from a SNES game. Sound relatively okay both do. No where near the level of 'Northern Lites'. In fact, the album does get off to a bad start and the latter half isn't much to cheer about. Hooks are present but it can be a little dull. 'Fire In The Heart' isn't the most original song but well crafted none the less. What's the Super Furries? There is chewing gum stuck in my hair? Well alright then n... woooooah! It's suddenly got all exciting! Hmm... maybe there are surprising parts on this album then. Good and large collection of songs. See what you fancy.

There are some excellent songs on this album, including The Turning Tide, Northern Lites and Keep The Cosmic Trigger Happy. But there are also some not so good songs that I just don't like, including Whever I Lay My Phone (That's My Home), Some Things Come From Nothing and The Door To This House Remains Open. As a Super Furries fan, I must say that this is their weakest album. But don't be put off by this album, as Radiator, Love Kraft and Hey Venus! are all amazing albums.
