I have only recently bought this album as both this and indeed Fiona Apple had completely passed me by. Bought on a whim but so glad I did, strong performance and easy to listen to without a weak song. Solid

Complete album from front to back. Looks to be a little under rated.

When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might so When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.

Brilliant and career-defining (although I like her two more recent albums better), it really demonstrated her sound miles better than Tidal.

It wasn't until Fiona released Extraordinary Machine six years after this one that I realized what a talent she was. My wife bought this when it came out, so I listened to it, but never really gave it a chance. "On the Bound" and "The Way Things Are" are the best tracks here.

Apple is gifted and original, and the best moments on the album—on “To Your Love,” “A Mistake,” “On The Bound,” and “Get Gone”— are truly moving. But she rarely sustains it throughout an entire song, let alone the entire album. It’s frustrating, because I think she’s capable of doing something both accessible and wonderful. But parts of songs like “Fast As You Can” are great, and parts are head-scratchingly bad. I leave only a few of these songs in my shuffle rotation, but I’m intrigued by the record and will revisit it from time to time to see if it grows on me.

The opening moments of this album give me chills, and make me want to stop what I'm doing and dance awkwardly. My favorite Fiona Apple album.

Fiona Apple is growing up... No longer the precocious sullen waif, she's gaining some life experience to back up all that talent. A strong sophomore effort to her strong debut. If all college girls were as interesting as she is, I would've never graduated.
