Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.5/100, a mean average of 75.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.0.

Soft and sweet neo soul for lazy Sunday mornings. Jorja Smith's debut isn't particularly captivating nor catchy, but that doesn't appear to be the point anyway. Rather, its reassuring tone and down-to-earth words make it feel friendly and comforting.
It doesn't mind if you don't give it all your attention, it sounds best when you just let it mellow into the background. That said, it does deliver it's sharper and more pointed moments, especially on The One and the fantastic Blue Lights. In a weird way though, I find it quite nice that they don't stick too far out of the sound of the album and thus avoid spoiling it's laid-backness.
Far from engaging, but a solid choice for music to switch off to, and who could ask for more with a voice as nuanced as hers.
This is great. Jorja has a stunning voice and the production is suitably centred around her voice, with its moody and jazzy instrumental arrangements weaving in between lines nicely. It's got a mildly trip-hop feel, but it's not quite a minimalist as, say, Massive Attack's Blue Lines. A nice variety of tempos and feels too. Lyrically, it's personal as well as socio-political, often intertwining the two. It reminds me a bit of Lauryn Hill. That's a good thing, obviously.
