The Kooks' latest album is filled with very straightforward, characterless dance-floor-friendly pop-rock. I can hear no guitars and the raw energy from their debut is gone as well. Most songs are so average they're forgettable, but Fractured And Dazed and No Pressure manage to stand out as high points of the record. This is about as far from indie rock as a band can possibly go, and while the band still proves they can write catchy melodies and sing-along choruses, it's simply not the same as back in the day.
