Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 77.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 5.8.

Ok let’s continue the Go-Betweens comparisons
Louis Forster is the actual son of Robert Forster Go-Betweens cofounder
Riley Jones female drummer is the Lindy Morrison
James Harrison is the Grant McClelland

The Goon Sax's easy going, laid back second album is a quietly innovative and highly relaxing record. The kind of soundtrack you want when cooking scrambled eggs for breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning.
Certainly one of the more unique additions to the new wave of Aussie Jangle Pop, the lyrics feel relevant and of the time; an ever-so-slight hint of melancholy balancing out the brightness of the instrumentation to create a down-to-earth feel to every moment of the record. Meanwhile, the tight, rustic instrumentation is delightful and fun, with particular highlights being the summery rhythms on A Few Times Too Many and Make Time For Love, though it also works on the slower cuts such as Strange Light. Those occasional strings are such a fine touch as well.
Consistent, easy on the ear and fun to listen to; certainly one of the best records of the year perhaps purely for how undemanding it is, but more so for its personality and grounded feel.
EDIT: Jan 2019. It's been a few months now since I was first enthralled by the rustic, down-to-earth magic of this album and it's safe to say I've fallen wholly in love with it. We're Not Talking captures an essence that I've been looking for a very long time; genuine honesty. So much music claims to offer it, and indeed plenty of bands offer the odd tid-bits. But On WNT, The Goon Sax speak in honesty for all its worth, on the most relevant topics of their listeners today. My best friend, who recommended them to me, has been through a similar experience; he was just waiting for me to properly realise what a subtle masterpiece this is. I've found a genuine friend in this wonderfully quaint, wholly warming and thoroughly genuine record.

I first fell in love with The Goon Sax in 2016 with their terrific 'Up To Anything' album
Fast forward 2 years and they have delivered again and exceeded everything that was great about that previous release . 'We're Not Talking' is brilliant top to bottom
So let's address the elephant in the room ...
The Go-Between's comparisons are undeniable: 3 piece (tick early Go-Bet's) , Brisbane natives (tick) , 2 guys one girl (tick early Go-Bet's ) sound (tick , tick , tick) - for goodness sake tracks such as "She Knows" , " Sleep EZ" , "A Few Times Too Many" and "Get Out" ( A Go-Betweens "Hammer The Hammer rip off) are more Go-Betweens-ish that the Go-Betweens and could easily have sat comfortably on 'Before Hollywood' , 'Spring Hill Fair' or 'Liberty Belle'.
The Go-Betweens comparison is in no way a criticism , in fact as a massive G-Bet's fan it's a complete compliment because as they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery
To me this album is easily one of THE very best albums for 2018 , I feel so privileged to be one of the very few to have it come into their lives.
Thank-you Goon Sax

This album is brilliant. It's a shame that few people listened to it!
