I discovered this record by going through the most recent Rolling Stone Top 500 albums list and it was one of my more pleasant surprises in a while.
El Mal Querer is a really successfully ambitious record. The best moments on these tracks mirror the album’s glowing, shimmering cover.
A consistently solid and engaging project with a run-time that makes it breeze by while still being able to deliver a narrative both musically and lyrically.

Good concept, but only a few of these tracks live up to the flamenco pop aspirations of the idea.

Fav. Tracks: Malamente (Cap. I: Augurio), Pienso en tu mirá (Cap. III: Celos), Reniego (Cap. V: Lamento), Bagdad (Cap. VII: Liturgia), Di mi nombre (Cap. VIII: Éxtasis).
If this was more well known, it would be top 10 in 2018, easily. Rosalía struck gold with this flamenco-trap/pop style and the way it allowed her to bring a beautiful, traditional story into the modern world of synths and industrial sounds.
