Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 73.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Manages to still work as an accessible, cosmo-pop record, but with the expansive arrangements and lyrics- of which strike a perfect balance between bittersweet romanticism and the decepetively casual-cum-mordantly confrontational- that give it more bite and overall leads to a livelier experience than many similar high-minded attempts.

"Oh Lykke Your So Fine , Your So Fine You Blow My Mind Hey Lykke , Hey Lykke"

Love the saucy lyrics on this album such as:
"Don't pull your pants , before I go down .. Like a shotgun needs an outcome I'm your prostitute , you gon' get some " (Get Some Track 5 )

Nice !

This pop album by Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li captures perfectly the longings and anxieties and passions of young adulthood in the twenty-first century. It's an amazingly consistent effort, but the conversation begins with the sad, strangely sexy, insistent drumbeats of "I Follow Rivers."

Going into this album, I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I did. I think that Lykke Li could really turn some heads on her next release.

There’s a lot to this album. This isn’t one of those albums that’s real simple. This album is complex, there’s a lot going on here. The arrangements are very interesting, from pounding, almost tribal-like drums, to slow beautiful guitar. And lyrically the album is relatively strong as well. Most of it is dark and somewhat brooding. Whatever Lykke Li is doing, she’s doing it well and I hope to see more of it.

I can't understand why this isn't higher on the list. It deserves at least top 20 status.

I first listened to this way back in February, via official stream, a week before the album was released. I knew nothing about Lykke Li at the time, didn't know what to expect, not in even in terms of genres, and there were no reviews at the time of course. But I was pleasantly surprised, I thought it was a very good album. After that I did not listen to this album at all for about 9 months, and my memories of the songs started fading and I was wondering whether I was overrating it because of my low (well nonexisting) expectations at the time... However I gave it another listen today and it is as good as I thought it was...
I don't think her voice is great, but she's a good songwriter (I don't just mean the lyrics), a lot of the songs are quite catchy and they're all well produced. Love the percussion on most of them.

Track picks: I Know Places (the calmest song on the album.. reminds me of Emiliana Torrini), Jerome and Silent my Song (yes it's a great ending to the album :)

P.S.
I see that Get Some and Sadness is a Blessing are the popular choice for the best songs here, but I'd disagree, at least with Sadness... It's catchy but quite annoying IMO.

Fantastic album! I should really listen to this one more. Sounds like the vocalist from Little Dragon in places. Very good song writing. Liked the track Get Some and Sadness Is a Blessing most.
