The 1992 release 'The Best Of Big Star' was a rather odd creature in that it completely omitted all tracks from 'Third' and really wasn't a Big Star best of at all
2017's 'The Best of Big Star' rectifies that miss-step with the inclusion of 'Third' classics:
"Jesus Christ"
"Take Care"
"Nightime (note the official track listing spelling being Nightime with ONE T )
and
"Thank you Friends"
Personally I would have loved to have seen the inclusion of one of either "Holocaust" or "Kangaroo" but can live with it
The following tracks are included on BOTH Best Of's
"In The Street"
"September Gurls" ( is this the best pop song every written ?)
"Thirteen"
"I'm In Love With a Girl"
"O, My Soul"
"When My Baby's Beside Me"
"Watch The Sunrise"
"Ballad of El Goodo"
and
"Back of The Car"
Further , a half-dozen of the 16 included tracks are rare single edits
For the Big Star nerd this album offers nothing new or unique , however to the uninitiated it represents a perfect starting point for Big Star discovery
