Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

A real divider for National fans. Personally it did not resonate at all. Despite repeated listening it did not grow like National albums often do.

I don't get why so many people don't click with this, when it's probably one of my favorite National albums. As the time passes by, it just gets better and better for me. I constantly return to this. The aura is so haunting and beautiful at the same time. It deserves much more love.

The least-good national album since Sad Songs, but still has that National sound we all know and love. Its the first one in a long time thats not a classic, but there are some top moments that stand with the national's best. Hairpin Turns is an instant favorite for me. Great song. Opener and closer are both great as as well. A lot of the songs have great moments without being great songs, and I'm a big enough National fan where that's fine with me. If you like this band's sound, there is plenty of melancholic emotion to brood to

Mostly uninteresting to me. The vocals are alright at points but I don't care them overall. The drums are good at times too but for the most part they're too overbearing. The songwriting is the most impressive part of the album but the words aren't really delivered in any fashion that I find compelling.

Weeell, the streak of great The National albums had to end one day. Don´t get me wrong this is still very solid, feels emotional, deep and sincere, and overall beautiful, obviously still worth a listen. But the album is still missing an anthem, or at least some memorable moments.

It´s good to finally see them realeasing Rylan.
