"Other Voices Too (A Trip Back to Bountiful)" is Nanci Griffith's twelfth studio album, her fourth album for Elektra, and a sequel to her GRAMMY award-winning album "Other Voices Other Rooms." While Griffith is an incredible songwriter, a firm folkie and a trailblazer for women in Americana music, she is best known for her interpretations of music by other composers.
Griffith returns with producer Jim Rooney, who produced the first Other Rooms LP and two Philo records that put her name on the map. While the first record was centered around Griffith and her interpretation of songs, this sequel is a more collaborative effort. It feels like a friendly down-home jam session, reminiscent of the Will the Circle Be Unbroken trilogy. The lineup of singers is a who's who of the boomer Texas singer-songwriters (Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Carolyn Hester, Tish Hinojosa, Lyle Lovett, Tom Russell, Eric Taylor, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Lucinda Williams, among folk legends like Odessa and Dave Van Ronk.
Apart from running too long (it's over an hour), it's an enjoyable collection of folk music.
