Ruby's Torch is Nanci Griffith's sixteenth studio album, released in 2006 on Rounder Records.

As the title suggests, the album is made of classic "torch songs," with come contemporary songs that are interpreted in the torch vocal style tradition.

While it is nice hearing Nanci sing songs in the "classic" vocal style, Ruby's Torch re-treads the style that was done better on The Dust Bowl Symphony. The track Late Night Grande Hotel and Drops from the Faucet sound identical to the versions on that album. Same for In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, which was previously released on the Clock Without Hands record.

There is certainly not essential Griffith material. I would recommend it to solid fans only.

Track Pick: Brave Companion of the Road
Gem: Late Night Grande Hotel
