One of my all-time favourite albums. Great & fun from beginning to end
Contains four tracks that was to begin their run of twenty consecutive top 20 hits, making them one of the top 5 most successful artists of 80's chart history. "The Prince"(16), "One Step Beyond"(7), "My Girl"(3) and "Night Boat To Cairo"(6) all made it big but there are still more epic tracks on this album like "Tarzans Nuts", "Bed And Breakfast Man", "Razor Blade Alley", "Swan Lake" and of course "Madness". This would also be the first of sixteen Top 20 albums. Enjoy a bit of fun!
Some absolutely great songs, namely the singles, make this a fun and enjoyable listen. That said, there are definitely some duds which I'm generally not a fan of. At the end of the day it's an album to have a laugh with and nothing to take too seriously, following the general nature of two-tone albums being a fun mess of songs.

"One step beyond", la canzone, è il grido di battaglia ( bè, battaglia… ) di una generazione che a fine anni settanta si era scoperta innamorata dello ska tanto da farne un convincentissimo revival. "My girl" e "Night boat to Cairo" completano un trittico iniziale che non fa prigionieri. Il resto del disco è un frizzante, dinamico, allegro, irresistibile pop, qualsiasi sia il ritmo che lo supporti.

if you switched the song "madness" with the sadly missing track "our house" this would be the happiest album ever.
Madness' first and still probably best of their albums. As with most Madness albums the singles taken from it are the best, and this one is no exception. Mr girl, night boat to Cairo, and the title track are the highlights.
What a joy.....the first, and best (?) Madness album. Saw them in concert 2014 and you can't believe how many quality songs they released but this album is the bees-knees! Sounds like they are having the best time, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
